Mechanical
The mechanical licensing exam is four hours, open book and has 80 multiple questions. The mechanical licensing exam covers the following topics: code knowledge, sizing, estimating, piping materials, water systems, backflow prevention, venting, combustion air, OSHA regulations, pipe installation and appliances, refrigeration and air conditioning, ventilation, evaporative cooling, warm air heating, ducts, combustion air, venting, duct sizing, estimating, tubing, OSHA, and controls. In Louisiana you must also take a business and law exam, which is closed
book and three hours. This exam covers the following topics: license
law, federal and state tax laws, labor laws, estimating and bidding,
contracts, project management, risk management, accounting, business
organizations, Louisiana lien laws and contractor safety practices.
